Phoenix emerged in response to a devastating workshop fire. As this was the first piece designed after the fire, we wanted it to embody a feeling of rebirth from the ashes. The prototype pieces were scorched using a Japanese technique called Shou Sugi Ban providing a burnt structure to support the pendant lights, symbolising hope for a bright new future. The elegant steam bent form generates a sense of movement as the top plane disappears over the horizon only for the underside to twist back into view on its return. All distracting electrical cables are hidden within the core of the jute rope.
